Bohemian Chic Meets the Modern Marie Antoinette

I simply couldn't resist sharing this British home with all of you.  I first
discovered the site 1st Option via MadebyGirl.  1st Option is a British
company that scouts locations for photo shoots and tv/film production.
Isn't the above room like a fantasy room for a girl?  The phrase
"Bohemian Chic meets the Modern Marie Antoinette" really encapsulates
the feel of this home for me.

Notice the pink carpet that runs throughout the house.  Pink is
what I consider a pretty bold choice for carpet throughout a home.

And the wonderful turquoise walls with gold painted molding.

The gold frame and color of the fabric on the telephone
chair really bring out the brilliant hue of the turquoise walls.

Now this is where the style seems to deviate a bit.  The color
palette with the vivid pink falls in step with the turquoise,
however the white tiles and dark grout and black toilet top
scream 80's to me.

The living room seems to be a hodge podge of different colors,
furniture styles and patterns yet it doesn't completely clash.  Fun
colors on the chairs and sofa.  The pair of black chairs at the end
remind me of crowns - chairs that are fit for a king and queen.

Last but not least is the fantastic dining room with the fabulous
oversized portrait painting against a black floral wallpaper.  Again,
I love the brilliant gold frames against the wallpaper and a fun
mirrored table.

I hope you've enjoyed this house as much as I have.

Wow! It takes an artist to put together a house like that! I wonder if they are renting, and decided to run with the pink carpet? It would explain the uh, minimal investment on the bathroom.

Maybe you should post this on Pink Saturday? Totally whacky, but it must work for someone. The living room was really pretty cute.

The Turquoise room with gold-painted molding is so incredibly lush! My favorite part of the home... (pink is otherwise not my color of choice).

There are many homes I'd like to tour because of textures and colors but there's no way I could actually live there. I can appreciate many parts of this house but this is one I simply would lose my mind in. I need calmer colors, less activity. Even so, I'd be up for a tour of this home.

At first glance I thought I liked the restroom but after a longer look I'm not so sure. There are parts of it that I think are wonderful like the pink but once you add the gold it seems to take something away from it.

The bed in the bedroom says to me, take me home. I very much love the whole bed. I could easily have this room in my home without the wallpaper. I'd want to keep the carpet too.

I think for me the difficulty of a room with so much activity is that there is no true focal point. With no true focal point I myself get lost. I need grounding which is one sort of hidden benefit of a focal point in a room or any piece of art. It lets the mind rest instead of travel until it drops.

Despite all the criticism I'd done here I'd still be up for a tour. :-) I know she's got the perfect tea kettle for guests. That would rock!!!!

I ran across 1st Option a little while ago and I agree with you, it's impossible to pass up. I think I spent a full 1/2 hour just staring at pictures!

Modern Marie Antoinette indeed! I love your commentary on this fun & frivolous style!

My favorites are the Venetian mirrors. The one in the bathroom is very eye catching - I like how it is hung directly over another larger mirror. Veeery opulent! The heart shaped one on the wall outside the kitchenette is a little too cutie-pie for me I'm afraid. But the mirrored dining table is fun. It brings the modern into the Marie Antoinette.

Fantastic pictures and fantastic house. I would say very bold but still very unique. I love, love and love that blue! One day, I'll paint my room in that shade soon...maybe not the pink carpet, but still it looks so good together. Happy week Karen.

I really love how bright the turquoise paint looks in the photo with the telephone chair. Is the lighting or gold decor the reason it looks so different than in the other photos? And does anyone know what brand and color name paint it is?
